“If you can go to a restaurant in New York City, you can come into the office. And we want you in the office,” Morgan Stanley CEO James Gorman stated recently. He then followed up to say that if employees weren’t back in the office by Labor Day, they shouldn’t expect to continue to get New York salaries.

“If you want to get paid New York rates, you work in New York,” Gorman said. “None of this ‘I’m in Colorado…and getting paid like I’m sitting in New York City.’ Sorry. That doesn’t work.”

Regardless of what your company has (or hasn’t yet!) decided, what are your thoughts on how talent is compensated? Should it be based on the work they do? Where they physically log in from?

Are we slowly headed in a direction where it doesn’t matter where we sit or are we about to go right back where we were two years ago?
